This week we started spreading the news to our family and close friends. Just about everyone seems to be thrilled, which is encouraging and kind of surprising. We really thought there would be some not so pleasant responses and were full of trepidation before each person was brought in to the fold.

And the real planning has begun, too.

  • We’d like to go to Osborne Park Hospital.
  • Visit GPs this coming week to find a nice one.
  • T-Rex (baby’s nickname) will get the spare room.
  • Going to put a big wardrobe in the bedroom.
  • Downstairs will become a spare bedroom/doghouse/couch surfing.
  • Stay at my place for at least 6 months after the birth.

I think that it’s also worth mentioning that we have had a few are we doing the right thing? thoughts. I expect that it’s normal for this to happen, but it’s interesting that it’s happening now and not when we first found out. We are spending more time working out the logistics of having a baby now though, rather than the idealistic idea that the perfect child will descend to us from on high.

Parents eh? Bunch of dreamers I reckon!

ben, emma, don’t be silly. no logistics involved! The stork comes flying throught he window and leaves one next to emma while she’s having a nice sleep in the hospital. then everyone wakes up and is happy! TAA DAH!

hmmm. is it wrong i work in a maternity hospital?

As a male, I used to think the basic formula was:

    Girl gets Pregnant.
There is growth and some ultrasound pictures
    Repeat for 9 months
    Rush to the hospital.
    Girl pushes baby out.
    Assume mantle of Fatherhood.
    Live happily ever after.

Which is about a complicated as the child’s version – “A stork comes and gives you a baby”.

a couple of funny things happened while talking to my parents the other week:

    1. when i told dad that you were having a baby he said “i didn’t know she was married”, good one dad, we still live in the fifties apparently; and

    2. before i’d even said it, mum picked that you’d be going to osborne park hospital. she has a weird sixth sense about all things baby related, spose it makes sense considering she’s a midwife huh?
